HONDA K SWAP DELOREAN

This 44-year-old DeLorean has undergone one of the most popular engine swaps. It now runs with a Honda K-series engine.

To my surprise the DeLorean DMC-12 went through 4 different engine selections during its initial design.

The first was a rotary engine, but that was shot down in favor of a V6 Ford engine. But then the V6 Ford was dumped for a Citroën CX inline 4 cylinder engine due to Fords unreliability. But due to the lack of power an inline four could produce from the CX, the motor selection was changed one last time to a V6 PRV engine and mounted to the rear.

Then one day while walking around one of the largest cars and coffee events on the east coast, there it was. A DMC-12 DeLorean with a Honda K series motor mounted in the place were the V6 PRV engine once stood. The grey valve cover of the Honda K series gave away that it was indeed a K24 instead of a K20 engine.

Not only was the engine swap done to perfection, but the rest of the DeLorean looked like it had been transported from the past. It was by far one of the cleanest DMC DeLorean restorations we’d ever seen.

The intake on the K24 looked to be from Kpower Industries known to make K series engine swaps for Miata’s, e30’s, and even BRZ/FR-S/86 and 86 vehicles. DeLorean isn’t on the list of engine swap kits, but this looked to be a fully custom build.
